Residence permit for internship/professional training

(Article 27, paragraph 1, letter f) of Legislative Decree No. 286/98 and subsequent amendments; Article 40 and Article 44 bis, paragraphs 5 and 6, of DPR No. 394/99 and subsequent amendments)

Individuals authorised to stay in Italy for the purpose of professional training, conducting temporary periods of training with Italian employers, which may also include tasks falling under dependent employment, are covered by this permit.

1. If entry into Italy is for the purpose of a functional internship, the foreigner must enter Italy with a study visa. In this case, the application must be accompanied by:
   1. Completed and signed application by the applicant (Form 1).
   2. Photocopy of the entire passport or another equivalent document (see table No. 4).
   3. Training project endorsed by the region where the internship is taking place.
2. If entry into Italy is for attending a professional training course (organised by accredited training institutions under Legislative Decree No. 112 of March 31, 1998) aimed at recognising a qualification or certifying acquired skills, with a duration not exceeding 24 months, the foreigner must have a study visa. In this case, the application must be accompanied by:
   • Completed and signed application by the applicant (Form 1).
   • Photocopy of the entire passport or another equivalent document (see table No. 4).
   • Document certifying enrollment in the professional training course issued by the accredited institution.
   • The request for the renewal of the residence permit must be accompanied by documentation certifying attendance in the training course issued by the accredited institution.
3. If the foreigner’s entry into Italy is for training activities based on a temporary transfer or secondment order issued by the organisation they belong to, the application must be accompanied by:
   1. Completed and signed application by the applicant (Form 1 and Form 2).
   2. Photocopy of the entire passport or another equivalent document (see table No. 4).
   3. For the issuance of the residence permit, Forms 1 and 2 are completed at the Immigration Office at the time of signing the residence contract.
   4. The request for the renewal of the residence permit must be accompanied by a photocopy of the residence contract signed between the parties and a copy of the receipt for sending the contract to the relevant Immigration Office.
